Yournext challenge
Reporting to the Metallurgy Superintendent of Technical Services, your role is split between project work and coordination of the metallurgical laboratory. You will work closely with other metallurgists and technicians as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on technical support and project development. You will ensure the proper functioning of the laboratory (managing human, material, technological, financial, and informational resources).
The group’s work is divided into two main categories, both supported by laboratory activities:
- Project development, such as studies of satellite zones of an operation, assessments of the company’s exploration portfolio potential (at various levels, including economic analyses, PEA and PFS), as well as evaluations of external mining prospects for potential acquisition;
- Operational support.
Using your technical knowledge and experience, you will propose value-added solutions to optimize the economic value of project developments. You will participate in the development of new technologies in collaboration with research institutes and act as a facilitator for their implementation at sites that may benefit from them. Your contribution to operational support will also allow you to build business relationships and mentor metallurgists across various divisions.
Responsibilities- Representing the metallurgy team as a process leader in multidisciplinary projects by attending team meetings, coordinating project activities, and supervising colleagues or contractors to ensure tasks are completed on time and in compliance with quality and safety standards;
- Preparing and leading team meetings;
- Selecting, planning, and coordinating metallurgical tests to be carried out at our Support and Development Center (CSD) facilities or in external laboratories;
- Analyzing test results and preparing reports to define design criteria and support the selection of processes and equipment;
- Producing material balances, metal recovery models, and projections of unit reagent consumption;
- Participating in project risk analyses;
- Conducting comparative economic “trade-off” studies, including CAPEX and OPEX;
- Preparing engineering documents such as schedules, budgets, project charters, requests for proposals, and performing monthly follow-ups;
- Ensuring proper management of documentation related to various projects using SharePoint sites and the Technical Services server;
- Assisting in mentoring junior metallurgists and/or interns;
- Supporting the metallurgy team based on various requests;
- Ensuring the planning of metallurgical laboratory work (short- and long-term);
- Maintaining laboratory documentation (procedures, sample logs, etc.), laboratory maintenance (work order creation and follow-up), and laboratory budgeting (management of technological and informational resources);
- Supervising the team of technicians and supporting best practices to ensure work is carried out in compliance with deadlines and quality and safety standards (laboratory human resource management);
- Managing material and financial resources.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering; or a Diploma of Collegial Studies (D.E.C.) in Mineral Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or Analytical Chemistry;
- Have a minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in mineral processing;
- Have experience working in mineral processing plants, engineering firms, and/or metallurgical laboratories;
- Possess knowledge of equipment and processing methods used in the gold and base metals industry;
