Maintenance Specialist II - Water

• Under direct supervision, perform a variety of semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance work, operating a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of City water, wastewater, and drainage systems.
• Repair leaks in the wastewater collection system or water distribution system, including work on pipes over 6 feet deep, handling trench safety, and replacing service tubing, sewer, lateral line, cleanout, main line, and/or tapping saddle.
• Check water and wastewater stations, keep grounds neat and clean, and assist with work on pumps, motors, controls, electrical wiring, SCADA system, wet wells, dry wells, elevated towers, and ground storage tanks.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all station equipment, elevated towers, and ground storage tanks.
• Remove debris, close and open valves to ensure proper operation, flush lines, and replace damaged parts using chemicals such as floating degreaser, chlorine, caustic soda, and all‑purpose cleaners.
• Repair manholes, city clean‑outs, and valves using a pick, shovel, and/or jackhammer; perform water and sewer taps, dig trenches or holes, and assist heavy‑equipment operators with opening holes and drilling using tapping machines or hole saws.
• Perform related duties and special projects as assigned and assist other departments during emergencies.
• Maintain regular, reliable, and non‑disruptive attendance and build professional, harmonious working relationships with others.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of experience related to construction, maintenance, or repair of water distribution and sewer collection systems.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions, complete work orders, fill out daily reports and checklists, read and understand equipment labels, chemicals, reports, and memos, and use math to calculate water usage at stations.
• Ability to interact and get along with crew members and the general public, and to follow safety procedures.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Must report traffic citations within two working days.
• Class "A" CDL is preferred or the ability to obtain a CDL with Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
• Must reside within a 1‑hour response time from the Public Works Building and be willing to relocate within six (6) months if not already within that radius.
• Must have a minimum of a Class "D" Water License and Wastewater Collection System Class I License or be able to obtain them within 12 months of hire. A Class "C" Water Distribution License and Wastewater Collection System Class II License is preferred.

Must be able to stand, walk on uneven terrain (asphalt, concrete, water, mud, rock), frequently work in knee‑deep mud, and lift tools and equipment up to 150 pounds. Work involves reaching, bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing to use equipment and elevate work sites. May operate foot controls on heavy equipment such as backhoes. Exposure to extremes in outdoor temperature, inclement weather, fumes, and trenching during water operations.
