The role

We’re looking for a skilled Chief Analyst to join our Analysis Department and lead a portfolio of ongoing client projects across multiple design and development programmes. In this role, you’ll deliver insight that directly shapes our clients’ product development, providing clear understanding of how complex components and technologies interact. Your work will help ensure solutions meet performance expectations while staying on track with cost and programme targets.

The successful candidate can expect to participate in a wide range of projects across many powertrain and vehicle types and market sectors as well as in the aerospace and defence area, energy sector and for industrial applications. The role involves providing mechanical analysis leadership to other engineers providing support to design and development projects using a range of analysis tools including both commercial analysis codes and classical calculations.

The role will be primarily responsible for transmissions analysis but may cover other analysis activities including a range of powertrain types, from conventional combustion engine through to hybrid and electric powertrains, and other mechanical systems.

Key Tasks

A Chief Analyst is required to carry out and lead a range analytical tasks which include but are not limited to:

  • Analysis to support the design process including gear layout concepting, gear durability, bearing specification and shaft durability.
  • Preparation of gear drawing details including specification of gear micro geometry.
  • Many non-standard analysis tasks to direct design recommendations or problem resolutions to the expectation of the client.
  • Development of analysis methodologies in the above mentioned areas.
  • Technical supervision of junior members of the team.
  • The Chief Analyst will be responsible for delivery of engineering solutions in line with project timescales and budgets as well as liaison with team members and customers in the achievement of targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project analysis activities for transmissions and other systems.
  • Produce high quality innovative mechanical analysis, using state-of-the-art multi-body dynamics analysis and hand calculations.
  • Lead engineering activities for transmissions from clean sheet concepting, through prototype, to full series production on client projects.
  • Responsible for working closely with a design and development team to assess functionality and performance of the developed systems; discuss and agree on requirements and targets.
  • Interpretation of analysis results and suggestions for improvements.
  • Preparation of detailed technical presentations for both internal and client project engineering review.
  • Work to internal and client quality procedures and validation processes.
  • Support the development of future products and services; assisting in the development of new techniques.
  • Develop processes, procedures and team for the delivery of analysis activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate mechanical / automotive / aerospace engineers with experience of mechanical analysis.
  • Minimum degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline (e.g. electrical and electronic engineering / mechanical engineering / physics / computer science / software engineering / maths / control engineering)
  • Excellent theoretical and analytical skills relating to dynamics and kinematics of mechanisms. Application experience in analysis of transmission or reciprocating and rotating components using hand calculations, multi-body dynamics or FEA tools is beneficial.
