Location:
Farnborugh - onsite 3 days per-week Role Purpose Lead the delivery of mechanical design solutions for complex engineering projects, providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and ensuring high-quality, compliant, and customer-focused outcomes across aerospace, land, maritime, and autonomous systems programmes.
Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design activities from concept through to delivery. Take ownership of complex technical challenges and provide expert guidance. Chair and contribute to design reviews and technical governance activities. Produce and review CAD models, engineering drawings, reports, and technical documentation. Support requirements capture, verification, validation, safety, and compliance activities. Manage technical risks, budgets, schedules, and stakeholder expectations. Drive continuous improvement and support the development of junior engineers.
Liaise with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and project stakeholders. Skills & Experience Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline. Proven experience delivering technical hardware solutions in a regulated or safety-critical industry. Strong knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing, materials, tolerancing, and engineering fundamentals. Experience using CAD and, ideally, engineering analysis tools such as FEA or CFD.
Knowledge of design governance, safety processes, and engineering standards. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Desirable Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership. Experience in aerospace, defence, maritime, automotive, or similar sectors. Formal training in safety engineering, HAZID, or regulatory compliance.
