Common Story is an award-winning storytelling company based in the West Midlands, creating bold, human-centred content for children. Building on our track record with I CAN for CBeebies, we are launching a dedicated Preschool You Tube channel. We are looking for a Digital Producer to build and run that content operation from the ground up.
The RoleThis is a format and production role, not a social media role. The Digital Producer designs repeatable content formats, captures digital-first material, leads green screen shoot days, manages the publishing pipeline and reads performance data to improve output. It will suit someone who thinks in formats rather than one-off ideas, is comfortable working at pace within a live production environment and is genuinely excited by building something new from the ground up for a young audience.
Responsibilities- Format Development
• Devise repeatable content formats grounded in how preschool audiences watch; think in formats not individual videos - Understand key formats that work on You Tube kids for preschool audiences
- Be able to produce strong and engaging thumbnails that will attract our preschool audience.
- understand what titles will grab preschoolers and work well with the YT algorithms
- On-Set Content Capture
• Be able to film and capture digital-first content including sound - Be able to edit content into useable films.
- Puppet-Led Content & Green Screen
• Use puppets as the primary content device; brief puppeteers and lead green screen shoot days - Treat every shoot day as a production multiplier: one day should feed multiple weeks of uploads
- Identify how the 130-episode archive can be reworked into new character-led formats at low cost
- Content Pipeline & Publishing
• Manage the edit pipeline; deliver long-form originals, Shorts and archive packages to the weekly schedule - Maintain the cadence: one long-form and two Shorts per week; build the launch library before the channel opens
- Write titles and metadata; apply packaging standards consistently; ensure You Tube Kids safe-by-design compliance
- Performance & Iteration
• Read data weekly: retention, completion, click-through, rewatch; bring recommendations monthly and quarterly
- Strong understanding of You Tube preschool content - retention, repetition, format recognition
- Digital-first video production experience; think in formats, manage high-volume pipelines
- Capture – be able to film and record sound to hight standard and then edit content in software programme up to publishing.
- Experience working within or alongside live production; comfortable at pace with autonomy
- You Tube publishing, metadata, thumbnails, channel management; able to read and act on data
- Children's content experience; puppet or character-led production; green screen
- You Tube Kids / Made for Kids requirements; safeguarding awareness in child-involving production
