About the UnitWe are a 70‑bed unit which includes 8 pediatric progressive beds. Our staff are equipped to care for a wide range of pediatric diagnoses, including oncology, hematology, endocrinology, neurology, general surgery, ortho, trauma, neuro, ENT surgeries, respiratory, adolescent medicine (disordered eating), gastroenterology, and more. Our healthcare team includes registered nurses, nursing assistants, clinical assistants, nurse practitioners, resident physicians, hospitalists, child life specialists, social workers, dietitians, physical and occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, chaplains, and other professionals trained to provide compassionate, high‑quality care for our pediatric patients.
Scopeof Work
The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient‑family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family. The RN documents education and learning appropriately in the health record.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate degree or from an ACEN accredited Diploma program.
- BSN, MSN, DNP/PhD – if not minimum BSN prepared, new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience is required to sign an educational contract upon hire to complete BSN within specified timeframe and adhere to contract stipulations. RN must enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure date and complete within the next five (5) years.
This is effective April 18, 2023. - MI Registered Nurse (RN) required.
- AHA, ARC Basic Life Support (BLS), or Canadian Heart and Stroke certification required upon hire/transfer.
- PALS required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
- Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years.
- External candidates are required to have a minimum of 2 years of Pediatric RN clinical experience. External candidates must successfully complete a required competency assessment provided by Nursing Education.
- Internal candidates with less than 2 years of Pediatric RN clinical experience must be approved by their current nurse leader and the site Chief Nursing Officer. These candidates are to remain a unit‑based PRN employee until they reach 2 years of nursing experience.
