8 South Neuro is a 52 bed progressive/medical surgical, comprehensive Stroke certified unit that offers a solid foundation in nursing for new grads. The unit has a focus on acute strokes, neurosurgical interventions, such craniotomies, spine procedures and VP shunts. In addition to a 4 bed epilepsy monitoring unit. The unit is fast paced and offers many learning opportunities.

It is a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations. The advanced capabilities and clinical expertise within this center have earned it Magnet designation four consecutive times and has the distinct honor of housing Michigan’s first Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence.

Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as

• Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing.
• May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.
• Note:
  
  ADN graduates will required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.
• RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.
• Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.
• Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations – theory and clinical.
• Requires current BLS certification.
