Overview
The Operations Control Officer (OCO) manages the Security Operations Center to direct the Security department’s activities from routine to emergency situations. The OCO must know and perform all responsibilities of the security officer, apply hospital and department policies and laws, and coordinate actions of security officers, hospital support personnel, and outside agencies. The role requires extensive knowledge of security equipment (CCTV, fire alarm systems, security alarm monitoring, emergency assistance monitors, door controllers, cameras, audio, door access systems, and medical gas alarms).
The position emphasizes respectful interaction, customer service, and adherence to hospital standards. The role may require Public Act 330 certification and PA330 certification requirements with the ability to arrest for misdemeanors as applicable.
- Apply extensive knowledge and experience to operate and coordinate the security-monitoring systems for appropriate action.
- Direct and coordinate the actions of security officers, entrance attendants, support personnel, and outside agencies in a safe and efficient manner.
- Respond to and coordinate the Security department’s communications network via telephone, airphone, radio channels, and walk-in traffic.
- Assist walk-in traffic with temporary key control, directions, and security-related issues.
- Communicate with supervisors and administrators, providing information and updates on potential problems and safety concerns for patients, visitors, employees, and property.
- Patrol campus as assigned (foot, vehicle, or bike) and assist with door unlocking and other security tasks; monitor for suspicious activity and violations.
- Accept and perform duties at assigned posts; enforce hospital rules, regulations, and policies as appropriate.
- May arrest for felonies or misdemeanors based on PA 330 status and write hospital or City parking tickets where authorized.
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of Operations Control Officer training program
- Successful completion of practical competency program for the Operations Control Officer
- 2 years of relevant experience; 2–3 years hospital security experience
- State of Michigan Driver’s License (LIC) upon hire
- CRT-AED (AED) – 90 days
- CRT-First Aid – 90 days
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – 90 days
- State of Michigan Concealed Pistol License (LIC) upon hire
- CRT-PA330 Certification – 90 days
Preferred
- Previous dispatcher experience
