Overview

We are recruiting a Stress Engineer to support UK Naval projects at our Rugby (Newbold Road) facility. The role involves detailed analyses using Finite Element methods and hand calculations on components and assemblies for UK Defence customers.

Responsibilities
  • Analyse components for fatigue, plastic collapse, buckling, ratcheting, rupture, natural frequency, and heat transfer.
  • Analyse components for loads from shock and operation.
  • Assist in weld type definition and check for strength and fatigue.
  • Identify design deficiencies through analysis techniques and propose improvements.
  • Analyse features and components for safe lifting during build and installation.
  • Analyse non-customer equipment such as pressure test fixtures, if required.
  • Build FE models from CAD assemblies.
  • Produce high‑quality technical reports and presentation material.
  • Participate in design reviews, customer presentations and meetings.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Honours degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related analytical discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience analysing mechanical components.
  • Experience with FEA packages, ideally ANSYS.
  • Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines preferred.
  • Ability to obtain SC Level clearance as a UK Passport holder.
  • Knowledge of ASME and DNV codes.
  • Experience in rotor dynamics an advantage.
