We are recruiting for a Community Warden to provide a highly visible presence across Rugby town centre and the wider borough, helping to keep the area safe, clean and welcoming.
This is a varied, public-facing role combining community engagement, patrols and enforcement. You'll spend much of your working day out and about, speaking with residents and businesses, responding to issues and taking appropriate action when required.
##
The Role
Your duties will include:
Carrying out visible patrols on foot and by vehicle
Providing a reassuring and recognisable presence within the community
Responding to reports of anti-social behaviour and environmental issues
Engaging with members of the public and encouraging appropriate behaviour
Issuing Fixed Penalty Notices and Penalty Charge Notices where appropriate
Dealing with issues including littering, fly-tipping, parking contraventions and dog control
Gathering information and evidence relating to environmental crime
Responding to community concerns and reported incidents
Identifying and reporting problems within the local environment
Maintaining accurate records of incidents and enforcement activity
Preparing reports and statements where required
Working alongside other council services and partner organisations
Dealing confidently and professionally with difficult or confrontational situations
The full job profile also includes intelligence-led patrols, investigation work and, where necessary, providing evidence as a witness in court.
## About You
We're looking for someone who is confident dealing with people and comfortable working independently in a public-facing enforcement role.
You'll need:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Confidence dealing with conflict and challenging situations
The ability to remain calm and professional
Good judgement and the confidence to use your initiative
Good written skills and attention to detail
Basic computer skills
A reasonable level of physical fitness due to the amount of walking involved
A flexible approach to shifts and duties
A full current UK driving licence
GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Previous experience of enforcement, security, policing, community safety, environmental enforcement, local government or another public-facing role would be particularly useful, although environmental enforcement experience is listed as desirable rather than essential in the person specification.
## Working Pattern
You'll work an average of 40 hours per week across a 6-week rolling shift rota.
Shifts operate 7 days a week between 8:00am and 10:00pm, so applicants must be able to work a mixture of weekdays, evenings and weekends.
This would particularly suit someone who enjoys being out in the community, is confident talking to people from all backgrounds and isn't afraid to challenge inappropriate behaviour when necessary.
