The Job in a Nutshell

The Produce Assistant is responsible for assisting the Produce Manager in the successful operation and profitability of the produce department.

Responsibilities

Providing World Class Customer Service as a priority.

Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence, and adhering to all policies.

Creating an inviting, full, and shopable produce department.

Assisting in ordering and maintaining inventory levels.

Managing margin, COGs, and overall profitability, minimizing shrink, and maximizing purchasing.

Maintaining the produce department daily, ensuring freshness and abundance.

Handling produce properly, including culling, crisping, and rotating.

Ordering and receiving only certified organic produce.

Ensuring all products meet company standards and cleanliness of tools and equipment.

Receiving produce orders and managing special orders.

Training and monitoring department personnel.

Conducting demos and addressing performance issues.

Handling register functions, including backup cashiering and customer service.

Maintaining safety and security.

Responding to customer questions and increasing product knowledge.

Utilizing email and IS programs as needed.

Completing cash processes if needed.

Working a schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, totaling 40 hours/week.

This role has limited Manager on Duty functions but is not the overall manager.

All employees are expected to be "hands on" and contribute to company success.

Qualifications

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.

1 year experience in grocery, retail, or produce preferred; natural foods background is a plus.

Experience supervising others is preferred.

Ability to pass food safety training and maintain certifications.

Ability to manage priorities and stay focused.

Excellent customer service skills.

Highly organized with attention to detail.

Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.

Cashier training and currency counting skills required.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
