Overview

Whether you are an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or a graduate looking to gain hands‑on experience in education this role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and progress in the SEN sector.
Responsibilities- Support students 1:1 and in small groups across primary, secondary or college settings.
- Work with students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and other learning difficulties providing tailored support.
- Assist teachers in adapting lessons to meet individual needs using PECS, Makaton and sensory‑based learning.
- Help students develop confidence, independence and social skills through structured interventions.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and provide emotional support when needed.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to create a nurturing learning environment.
- Encourage inclusion and engagement ensuring all students have access to learning opportunities.
- Graduates in Psychology, Education, SEN, Social Work or related fields looking for hands‑on experience.
- Experienced Teaching Assistants, Youth Workers or Support Workers with a passion for SEN.
- A patient, compassionate and proactive approach to working with children and young people.
- Knowledge or experience of SEN strategies such as PECS, Makaton, Team Teach or de‑escalation techniques (desirable but not essential).
- A willingness to learn and take part in ongoing CPD and training.

Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination, Autism Education, Trust Dyslexia / SpLD or SEMH specialism). Proficiency in alternative / augmentative communication methods Makaton, PECS, AAC using evidence‑based interventions such as TEACCH, SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team‑Teach, MAPA or similar de‑escalation and safe‑handling with assistive ed‑tech tools and adaptive software.
