Long-Term SEND Teaching Assistant - Autism Support (1:1)
Location: Runcorn, WA7.
Start Date: 3rd September
Hours: Full-time, Term-Time Only
Contract: Long-Term Supply, could eventually go perm.
Pay: £95-115/day DOE – paid PAYE direct via Cover People.
Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Autism?
We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Runcorn (WA7) for a skilled and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to provide specialist 1:1 support for two pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) from September.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong autism experience who can build positive relationships, adapt their approach to individual needs, and help pupils thrive both emotionally and academically.
The RoleYou will provide dedicated support for:
- A Year 3 pupil with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- A Year 6 pupil with Autism and significant Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) traits
.
Following recommendations from the Educational Psychologist, support will be delivered in shorter sessions throughout the school day, with changes of adult to promote engagement and wellbeing. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time supporting the Year 6 pupil.
When either pupil is absent, you may be asked to provide support for other children within the school.
We’re Looking For Someone Who Has:- Significant experience supporting children with Autism and complex additional needs.
- A strong understanding of autism-friendly approaches and effective SEND strategies.
- Experience working with pupils displaying PDA traits and demand-avoidant behaviours.
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour using positive, relationship-based approaches.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A calm, patient, flexible and resilient attitude.
- Previous experience providing 1:1 support within a primary school setting.
- Deliver tailored 1:1 support for two pupils with Autism.
- Promote engagement, emotional regulation and positive learning experiences.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals.
- Support pupils' social, emotional and academic development.
- Adapt your approach throughout the day to meet changing needs.
This role is being offered on a long-term supply basis while the school recommences recruitment for a permanent member of staff. The placement is expected to continue while the permanent recruitment process is underway.
