Highways Supervisor

Overview

Highways Supervisor – permanent role based at Preston Brook Depot, Chester Road, Preston Brook, WA7 3AT
. The position works with National Highways under Amey’s Area 10 account and covers 1,450 km of motorway and dual carriageway trunk roads and about 500 structures.

Standard working hours are 42 hours per week on a 4 on/4 off shift pattern (four 12‑hour night shifts and four 12‑hour day shifts).

• Carry out site visits to ensure work is completed safely and to required standards, including HSEA site inspections as per contract instructions.
• Provide technical support to operational teams.
• Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings, ensuring correct use of PPE and compliance with safety standards.
• Carry out site safety and environmental inspections in line with contractual requirements.
• Ensure accurate recording of works by operatives on PDAs to support correct claims submission and compliance with CDM regulations.
• Arrange materials and traffic management to enable safe, efficient delivery of works in accordance with specification.
• Confirm teams hold the correct permits and operate in line with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
• Prepare duty rotas for winter service and emergency response activities.
• Arrange and process overtime and timesheets in line with Standard Operating Model (SOM) principles.
• Work in liaison with OCR to ensure compliance with Working Time Directive and effective resource planning.

• Full UK Driving Licence (LGV Class C desirable).
• Previous experience working on Highways Maintenance contracts.
• Experience delivering emergency and winter service operations.
• Experience of performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Experience managing operational teams.
• Availability to work nights and weekends.
• Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving.
• Good commercial awareness.
