Overview of the job
Help keep the public safe and support offenders in the community. The Probation Service Officer will provide case management to people on probation before and after sentence, including assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and reporting.
Responsibilities- Manage a caseload of offenders before and after sentence.
- Assess and manage risks, provide information to courts and work closely with agencies throughout the justice system.
- Produce clear, accurate reports and documentation to tight deadlines.
- Provide practical support to offenders, such as advice on housing, employment and personal development.
- Apply service procedures and practice directions to underpin professional judgement.
- Empathetic, patient and resilient with the ability to handle challenging situations.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to produce concise reports.
- Experience working with people who have social or personal difficulties is desirable.
- No degree required, but a strong personal quality profile is essential.
- Annual leave of 25 days, increasing to 30 days after five years of service plus public holidays.

The role offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business needs allow, blending work from the base location, MoJ sites or from home, provided you work within the UK. Standard full‑time hours are 37 hours per week excluding unpaid breaks.
