Paramedic - FT- (36 Hours/week) - Varying Shifts

ResponsibilitiesA Paramedic will report to the Crew Chief on duty and be responsible to the Ambulance Director while on duty in the hospital.
Paramedic functioning in a pre‑hospital setting is responsible for following physician orders regarding the care of patients. Paramedics that are Crew Chiefs are responsible for following the physician’s standing orders and/or the Emergency Room Physician orders. The Paramedic is responsible on a shift‑to‑shift and on‑call basis for the pre‑hospital and general patient care provided under the Idaho EMS guidelines and hospital policy.
The areas of responsibility are divided into four functional areas:
- Pre‑hospital patient care and transport.
- Administrative assignments.
- Educational / Developmental / Licensure responsibilities.
- Intra‑hospital responsibilities, transport and other duties.
- Respond promptly and safely to the scene of injured and/or sick patients.
- Provide direct patient care after evaluating the scene, assessing individual needs, and treating patients appropriately.
- Operate in accordance with Idaho Paramedic laws, the Idaho Emergency Medical Services Bureau standards, and Minidoka Memorial Hospital Policies.
- Ensure medical treatment is implemented, evaluated, and documented correctly.
- Use standing written orders provided by the Medical Control Physician of Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
- Maintain two‑way radio and cell phone communication with the Emergency Room Physician, Emergency Department staff, State Communication Center, and appropriate law‑enforcement or public‑service agencies.
- Drive ambulances safely and in compliance with Idaho state laws and the Emergency Driving Standards outlined in the policy manual.
- Maintain ambulances by stocking, cleaning, and ensuring readiness at all times.
- Follow personnel and staffing policies.
- Participate in evaluations pertinent to the area of practice and Quality Assurance.
- Provide feedback to the shift supervisor regarding service and program needs.
- Control use of supplies and equipment, ensuring correct billing after each ambulance call.
- Complete other job‑related duties as required.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, bystanders, visitors, and staff.
- Know specific responsibilities in emergencies:
Code Red, Code Black, Code Blue. - Demonstrate professional and ethical conduct per Minidoka Memorial Hospital policy and Idaho EMS Bureau ethics.
- Assess educational needs and seek resources to meet them.
- Engage in quality improvement activities.
- Collaborate with the shift supervisor to identify programs that meet staff needs.
- Respond to 911 pager calls as first priority.
- Complete assigned duties as directed by the department supervisor.
- Assist nurses with vital signs, triage, and patient discharge documentation.
- Start medication‑free intravenous fluids, documenting accurately.
- Assist in patient assessment in the emergency department, documenting as per ER policies.
- Transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher to and from beds, chairs, and stretchers, including Countryside facilities.
- Obtain supplies and equipment under supervisor direction.
- Report intra‑departmental issues to the crew chief, director, or ambulance administrative lead.
- Document any duty changes per Minidoka Memorial Hospital policy.
- Remain in base headquarters or within hospital area during duty; alert personnel if outside.
- Participate in code teams during hospital code situations.
- Call 911 for code responses at Countryside sites.
- Engage in quality improvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Wear professional‑looking, clean uniforms while on duty in the hospital; refer to Dress Code policy.
- Adjust uniform choice for pre‑hospital weather conditions as needed.
- Uniforms must be approved by the Director of Ambulance to ensure uniformity.
Minimum Requirements
- Certified as a Paramedic (2011) and provide certification to the Director of Ambulance.
