Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and practical Irrigation Specialist to join their dynamic agricultural team in the Rustenburg area. This role is vital for ensuring the efficient and effective use of water resources across various farming operations, including field crops and orchards. You will be responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of sophisticated irrigation systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of water management principles, hydraulics, and relevant technologies, contributing to sustainable farming practices and maximizing crop yields through precise water application.

Key Responsibilities

Design and engineer customized irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, center pivot) tailored to specific crop needs and terrain.
Oversee the installation and commissioning of new irrigation infrastructure, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
Perform regular inspections and maintenance on existing irrigation systems, diagnosing and resolving technical issues promptly.
Monitor water usage, system efficiency, and soil moisture levels, recommending adjustments for optimal performance and water conservation.
Manage the procurement and inventory of irrigation equipment, parts, and supplies.
Train farm staff on the proper operation and basic maintenance of irrigation systems.

Requirements

Diploma or degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in irrigation.
Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of agricultural irrigation systems.
Proficiency in using CAD software for irrigation system design and mapping.
Solid understanding of hydraulics, water flow dynamics, and soil-water-plant relationships.
Experience with different irrigation technologies and water management software.
Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex irrigation challenges in the Rustenburg agricultural landscape.
