About the Role

Our client is looking for a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer to support their extensive mining operations near Rustenburg . This critical role involves assessing and managing geological and ground stability risks associated with mining activities, both underground and open-pit. You will conduct site investigations, analyze geotechnical data, and provide expert recommendations to ensure the safety and stability of mine workings, infrastructure, and tailings facilities.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong analytical mindset, significant experience in mining environments, and a commitment to developing innovative solutions for complex geotechnical challenges, ensuring the long-term safety and viability of the mine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies.
  • Perform stability analyses for underground excavations, open-pit slopes, and tailings dams.
  • Develop and implement ground support designs and monitoring programs.
  • Advise mine planning and production teams on geotechnical risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Interpret and analyze field and laboratory test data.
  • Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in the mining industry .
  • Expertise in numerical modeling software for slope stability and excavation analysis (e.g., FLAC, PLAXIS).
  • In-depth knowledge of rock mechanics and soil mechanics principles as applied to mining.
  • Experience with geophysical exploration techniques and borehole data interpretation.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) or equivalent registration is highly desirable.
