Structural Engineer - Bridge Design

Our client, a prominent engineering consultancy, is seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to bolster their capabilities in Rustenburg, North West. This role focuses specifically on the design and analysis of bridges and other transportation structures. You will play a key part in the lifecycle of major infrastructure projects, ensuring the safety, integrity, and longevity of critical structures. We are looking for an individual with a keen eye for detail, a solid foundation in structural mechanics, and experience with modern design software and methodologies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a team of experienced professionals, driving innovation and delivering excellence in structural engineering.

• Perform structural analysis and design of bridges, overpasses, and other transportation-related structures.
• Develop detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Conduct structural assessments of existing bridges and recommend strengthening or rehabilitation measures.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards (e.g., SANS 10160, SANS 10162), and project requirements.
• Collaborate with road design engineers, geotechnical engineers, and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and construction phase support documentation.
• Manage structural design aspects of projects, coordinating with other disciplines and stakeholders.
• Review shop drawings and respond to site queries during the construction phase.
• Mentor junior structural engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing within the team.
• Stay updated on advancements in structural engineering software, materials, and construction techniques.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
• Professional registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA is required.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in structural engineering, with specific experience in bridge design.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP
  2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) principles and application.
• Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit Structure) for detailed design and documentation.
• Familiarity with relevant South African structural design codes and standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Residing in or willing to relocate to Rustenburg, North West.
