Minimum Qualifications

  • Level 5:
    Higher Certificates and Advanced National Cert Trade and Occupational Qualifications Mining
Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
  • National Certificate Supervisor Operations (QCTO)
  • DMR Blasting Certificate (post 1 June 2017) or DMR recognised Mining Operations Level 2 (MQA) and Rock Breaker Level 3 (MQA).
  • Minimum of 3 years mining experience at the level of a Miner (Graduates with 6 months mining experience and 3 months Supervisory experience)
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.

  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff.

  • Continuously liaise with the Operations Manager regarding mining activities.

  • Maintain feedback to team and management concerning production progress.
  • Obtain and communicate operational statistics to the development teams: production, safety, attendance, efficiencies, zero tolerance compliance.
  • Select and communicate relevant information about production achievements or delays to both parties.
  • Involve team members in decision-making and problem solving, monitoring performance of all activities and advising where applicable to enhance productive achievement.
  • Assist during breakdowns or emergencies and coordinate support from other disciplines.
  • Encourage cooperation and teamwork between maintenance and operational personnel.
  • Monitor material usage and ensure that the use of reclaimed material is optimised.
  • Arrange expertise for problems beyond the scope of existing resources.
  • Coordinate the activities of haulage servicemen allocated to the area and monitor shift activities to ensure maximum production output.
  • Maintain quality working methods, sequences and performance to support the continuance of the mining cycle.
  • Ensure team activities support each other in the mining cycle.
  • Monitor and advise the teams on working methods and scheduling.
  • Apply legal, operational and standard compliance with regards to work, machinery and equipment inspections and the recording thereof as stipulated in section 2.15.1 of the Minerals Act.
  • Inspect ground conditions and face preparation, taking appropriate action when non‑compliance is identified.
  • Inspect temporary and permanent support installations, taking appropriate action when non‑compliance is identified.
  • Inspect machinery, equipment and safety devices, taking appropriate action when non‑compliance is identified.
  • Inspect barricades, hazardous areas and abandoned workings, taking appropriate action when non‑compliance is identified.
  • Perform early and late shift examinations as specified and monitor environmental conditions for compliance.
  • Conduct tests for flammable and harmful gases, ensuring gas percentages are within permissible limits.
