Part-Time Substitute Instructor for Adults with Autism
Hours of work: 8:30am-2:30pm (exact days to be determined based on the needs of the program).
Base pay range: $23.00/hr - $25.00/hr
Program descriptionThe REED Autism Services PATH Transition Program is a post-secondary, two-year, college-based certificate program in partnership with Felician University. The New Jersey Department of Education approved program is designed to impart crucial career readiness and life skills for students ages 18-25 with a primary diagnosis of autism. PATH blends dynamic classroom instruction with real-world application, emphasizing four key pillars: community engagement, employment, self-determination, and household/personal management.
The program, which also includes vocational training through work-based learning, equips students with the tools for meaningful employment and independent living. Classroom instruction is based on the licensed Learn4
Independence curriculum. Located on the Rutherford campus of Felician University, PATH students will have the opportunity to experience life as part of a college community.

Requirements- Junior/Senior or Graduate Student in social work, education, special education, ABA, human development, psychology or similar field
- Recent high school or adult teaching experience and/or experience working on a college campus
- Experience working or volunteering with neurodiverse individuals (autism, ADHD, ADD, anxiety disorders, depression, etc.) in an educational or counseling setting
- Ability to lead a class of 7 students with autism
- Instruct in classroom using the Learn4
Independence curriculum - Follow lesson plans as provided and modify as needed to meet student learning styles and needs
- Observe student progress and challenges, adjust instructional methods, and provide coaching and support
- Support PATH students with engaging in social activities on campus
- Support PATH students with being independent on campus
- Support and respect the right of self-determination in choices and actions within the PATH program’s requirements
- Participate in initial staff training and ongoing professional development
- Complete daily assigned activities and documentation within identified time frame and adhere to organizational expectations
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality according to established organizational policy
- Be professional and respectful in communication with staff, students, family members, community partners, and the general community
- Demonstrate integrity, kindness and excellence through work and interactions to promote a positive organizational culture
- Be comfortable and confident in sharing and receiving direction, ideas, and feedback
- Assist with/participate in administrative tasks as assigned by the Director
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Director
