Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of Cornerstone Housing Partners. Reporting to the Senior Accountant or Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant is responsible for various accounting tasks, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong accounting skills and a commitment to the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:Accounts Payable:
- Process vendor invoices, ensure accuracy and completeness of supporting documentation, and obtain proper approvals for payment.
- Maintain vendor records, reconcile statements, and address inquiries and discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare and process electronic payments, including checks, ACH transfers, and wire transfers.
Generate invoices, statements, and receipts for services rendered or products sold.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging, follow up on past due invoices, and coordinate collections efforts as needed.
- Record payments, reconcile accounts, and resolve discrepancies.
- Record and reconcile accounting transactions in the general ledger system.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and adjustments.
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including monthly financial statements, budget vs. actual variance reports.
- Compile supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation for audit and review purposes.
- Assist in the preparation of tax filings, grant reports, and other regulatory submissions.
- Provide administrative support to the finance team, including filing, scanning, and organizing financial documents.
- Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; relevant coursework or equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit organization or similar setting.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel (Yardi and MIP a plus).
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have a team-focused attitude.
