Position: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I, II, OR III - WASTEWATER

Salary Range

Candidate's starting salary will be between $20.91/hr.

- $31.49/hr.

Maintenance Technician I

$20.91 - $27.19/hr.

Maintenance Technician II

$22.19 - $28.84/hr.

Maintenance Technician III

$24.22 - $31.49/hr.

Overview

Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi‑skilled work in performing a variety of tasks in the general construction, repairs, and maintenance of city wastewater collection and water distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities – Utility Maintenance
  • Inspecting manholes and cleanouts.
  • Jetting and cleaning sewer mains.
  • Performing cleanup duties following sanitary sewer overflows.
  • Removing barricades and traffic cones to secure work areas.
  • Marking, digging, cutting, and repairing lines.
  • Operating various equipment under guidance of the Crew Leader.
  • Monitoring chlorine residuals.
  • Repairing leaks.
  • Operating valves, fire hydrants, and other utility system appurtenances as required.
  • Documenting all work completed.
Key Responsibilities – Wastewater Collection System
  • Completing video inspections of the City’s wastewater collection system.
  • Operating motor vehicle and observing City’s utility systems.
  • Operating light and heavy equipment under the supervision of the Crew Leader.
  • Retrieving appropriate equipment and tools from the truck.
  • Documenting work completed.
Key Responsibilities – Pump & Lift Stations
  • Performing grounds maintenance.
  • Inspecting water and wastewater pumps.
  • Inspecting and operating control valves onsite.
  • Repairing leaks and performing minor maintenance.
  • Checking packing, vibrations, and inspecting check valves.
  • Removing debris, inspecting wet wells, and adjusting floats.
  • Documenting actions and procedures.
Key Responsibilities – Water Distribution System
  • Completing leak surveys of the public water system.
  • Operating motor vehicle and observing City’s utility systems.
  • Retrieving equipment and tools from the truck.
  • Documenting work completed.
Key Responsibilities – Departmental Support
  • Providing maintenance support to Parks and Recreation, Drainage and Water and Sewer.
  • Completing irrigation repair as necessary and marking activities.
  • Working on special projects as assigned.
  • Setting up and removing barricades and traffic cones.
  • Assisting other public works divisions with maintenance and repair work.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions for assigned area.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of traffic control techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of safe work methods and techniques.
  • Skill in utilizing a variety of tools and equipment for utility, street and park maintenance.
  • Skill in following written and oral instructions.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.
Maintenance Technician I – Education & Experience
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • One (1) year general labor experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Maintenance Technician I – Licensing & Certifications
  • Valid State of Texas Driver License at time of hire.
  • Employees hired in Public Works must obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B or higher within 12 months of hire to continue employment.

NOTE:

All certifications and licenses must be current at time of application and maintained as a condition of employment.

Maintenance Technician II – Education & Experience
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Two or more years of specialized experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Maintenance Technician II – Licensing & Certifications
  • Valid State of Texas Commercial Driver (CDL), Class B at time of hire or career progression.
  • Wastewater Division hires must possess and maintain a Class I Wastewater Collection License or obtain one within 12 months of hire.
