Role Overview

As a Civil Project Engineer, you will plan, organize, design, and control the activities of projects to achieve successful completion within established schedules, budgets, and QA/QC policy constraints. Typical projects will involve design of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional site plans—including site layout, grading, and utility design (sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water system, etc.) associated with land development work.

Responsibilities
  • Support the project team in preparing professional, economical, and effective plans and specifications for each project.
  • Conduct engineering computations for difficult and complex engineering projects.
  • Communicate directly with governmental/regulatory staff regarding design concepts and requirements; represent clients at regulatory agency hearings or meetings.
  • Perform overall quality control of the work, including budget, schedule, and plans; report regularly on project status to the Project Manager.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
  • Responsible for the design concept of plans and specifications.
  • Consult and advise field engineers, contractors, and inspectors regarding the construction phase of the project.
  • Communicate with the Project Manager on project strategy and matters that may impact the outcome of a project.
  • Assist in preparation of project proposals, including scope of work, time schedule, and manpower estimates.
  • Promote new business for the company and for your area of expertise.
Requirements
  • BS in Civil Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with a minimum of 4 years of related experience, OR Engineer in Training (EIT) on track to attain a PE license with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Sound mathematical skills required.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in both office and field settings. Outdoor work may involve temperature extremes and inclement weather. Work hours are flexible and subject to change based on project schedules. Frequent site visits may be necessary. A criminal background check and driving record check will be conducted.
