Position Overview – Under general supervision, Accountants perform a wide variety of professional accounting, budgeting, and fiscal duties, such as establishing and maintaining accounting records, participating in budget preparation & control, reviewing and analyzing accounting and financial transaction records, and preparing financial statements and reports. Incumbents at this level may provide work direction to clerical or technical staff. A telework hybrid work schedule may be available and can be discussed during the interview.
Responsibilities- Establish and maintain accurate accounting records.
- Participate in budget preparation and control.
- Review and analyze accounting and financial transaction records.
- Prepare financial statements and reports.
- Provide work direction to clerical or technical staff.
- Professional accounting standards (GAAS, GAAP, GASB, FASB, GAO, etc.).
- Accounting procedures and their application to various transactions.
- Financial statement preparation.
- Cost and revenue projection and cost allocation methods.
- English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Office procedures and software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, other specialized applications).
- Prepare and analyze statistical and financial data.
- Analyze and recommend effective financial and accounting procedures and workflows.
- Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Participate in government contract and budget preparation and monitoring.
- Organize and prioritize work efficiently to meet schedules and deadlines.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships.
A Bachelor’s degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accountancy. A valid licensed California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
Background/Criminal HistoryBackground and criminal history information may be accessed for candidates who have accepted a conditional offer for this class. Candidates who have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to the duties of this class will not be considered unless mitigating circumstances exist.
Driver’s LicenseA valid California Class C or higher driver’s license may be required didates who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
Probationary Period12 months.
