Job Summary

Join SMUD's dynamic Grants Team where you will play a pivotal role in advancing our ambitious Zero Carbon Plan and sustainability priorities. SMUD is the nation’s sixth-largest community-owned, not-for-profit electric utility committed to absolute zero carbon emissions. Grant funding is essential to realizing this vision, and the Grants Team secures and manages funding across clean energy, grid resilience, transportation electrification, and equity-focused community initiatives.

This Management Analyst position is embedded in the Grants Team and focuses on supporting the pursuit and management of critical grant funding. Candidates will be evaluated primarily on experience and skills related to grant management for awards secured by SMUD.

We seek a detail-oriented, proactive analyst with strong budget management and advanced spreadsheet skills to support grant administration. Knowledge of federal and state government processes, legislative frameworks, report writing, and grant management is highly valued. The candidate will demonstrate analytical capabilities, an understanding of governmental procedures, and effective collaboration across multiple teams. Key responsibilities include monitoring grant compliance, refining project scopes, preparing reports, and facilitating communication among internal departments and external partners.

Purpose

Performs administrative, analytical, and/or technical functions and serves as a project lead supporting assigned operations and management/supervisory staff in an assigned department to ensure efficient department functioning and achievement of department results and goals.

Nature and Scope

This classification comprises two levels:
Level "E" is entry-level with formal training for progression to journey-level "J". Incumbents hired at the entry-level must progress within 18 to 60 months, depending on training requirements. If an employee does not progress, they will be reassigned or separated from SMUD.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides administrative, analytical, and technical support to assigned management staff; researches, drafts, and prepares correspondence, memoranda, directives, procedures, and reports.
  • Enhances department efficiency by informing staff of changes to SMUD policies, regulations, and programs; reads and analyzes policies and provides recommendations.
  • Supports budget preparation and administration; coordinates phases of budget preparation, documents assumptions, prepares reports, monitors expenses, and reports budget status.
  • Coordinates timely completion of analytical tasks to ensure efficient department organization; oversees preparation of documents, conducts studies, provides administrative support, and negotiates changes to processes.
  • Coordinates activities with Personnel/Human Resources; participates in staffing, performance reviews, recruitment, and documentation of assignments.
  • Coordinates activities with other SMUD departments; arranges and coordinates delivery of services, monitors agreements, and serves as departmental representative for unit projects.
  • Assists in preparing and administering departmental action plans, business plans, and performance metrics; drafts improvement plans and compiles reports.
  • Prepares presentation materials for departmental reporting to the Board, Board committees, General Manager, and executive management.
  • Supports department projects; assists in planning, reviewing, conducting work activities, and researching required project information.
  • Arranges and schedules staff training and attendance at conferences and seminars.
  • Coordinates and administers departmental involvement in SMUD programs including safety and disaster recovery.
  • Performs related duties as required.
