Under general supervision, the Storekeeper I leads and monitors the work of Stock Clerks while performing the same, and/or more difficult duties as those being led; ensures completion of tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures; communicates policies, procedures and job expectations; and provides training to staff.
Knowledge of- Principles and practices of leadership, mentoring, and training
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
- Operational characteristics, services, and activities of assigned programs and functions Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other specialized applications related to area of assignment
- English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
- Basic store keeping, warehousing, and inventory methods and procedures
- Basic operation of a mail and supply distribution system
- Methods of estimating future supply needs and planning the ordering schedule
- Safety standards and procedures for handling various kinds of supplies, working in warehouses, driving, and lifting and moving large or heavy objects
- Record-keeping used in ordering, storing, distributing and paying for supplies
- Basic kinds of contracts, shipping orders and purchase orders used in store keeping
- Principles of stock rotation
- Lead and train Stock Clerks and other staff performing duties related to store keeping activities
- Plan, coordinate, distribute, and review the work of staff
- Provide work direction and instruction
- Identify, research and evaluate work problems, and recommend solutions
- Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
- Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
- Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met
- Use a variety of common and specialized directories, catalogues, and manuals to locate and order various supplies, parts and equipment
- Learn the ordering, handling, and storage procedures for various kinds of specialized supplies such as hazardous materials and items with limited shelf-life
- Learn and use basic County purchasing procedures
- Organize storage space for most efficient use
- Operate small to heavy-duty forklifts and other material handling equipment
- Learn basic US Postal regulations regarding bulk mailing
- Learn basic accounts receivable and payable systems
- Learn basic procedures of County budget preparation and monitoring
- Learn basic printing procedures
- Perform simple mechanical maintenance and assembly
- Learn a computerized inventory control and record keeping system
- Learn to design forms
Either:
1. Two years of full-time paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Stock Clerk.
Or
2. Two years of full-time paid experience performing the duties of a stock clerk involving receiving, recording, storing, and issuing a variety of supplies, equipment and/or merchandise.
Note:
If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel Policies and Procedures, and applicable federal and state laws.
