Primary Purpose and Essential Functions

The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, Arthur

A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, invites applicants to apply for a part‑time teacher‑clinician. The role includes:

  • Teaching pediatric dentistry at the pre‑doctoral level.
  • Instruction in the dental auxiliary utilization (DAU) program.
  • Community outreach activities, often in partnership with the student‑organized outreach group (SCOPE).
  • Participation in scholarship and service as encouraged.

Workload will vary quarter to quarter based on department needs and faculty availability.

  • Teaching in interdisciplinary courses and other departments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current knowledge of the AAPD Pediatric Dentistry Reference (current edition).
  • Knowledge of manual dental school educational processes.
  • Restorative and preventive information and technique.
  • Education: DDS/DMD or international equivalent from an ADA‑accredited school of dentistry (preferred).
  • Certificate or Master’s degree indicating successful completion of an ADA‑accredited specialty training program in pediatric dentistry (required).
  • Valid CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (desirable).

Physical Requirements
  • Sufficient motor function to provide oral health care to patients.
  • Skills in palpation, percussion, auscultation, diagnostic maneuvers, basic laboratory tests, dental preparations, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic life support including CPR, transfer and position patients with disabilities, and restrain children lacking motor control.
  • Ability to operate dental handpieces and hand instrumentation, including scalpels for surgical procedures.
Hiring Range

$65 per hour; factors considered include scope and responsibilities, qualifications, internal equity, market and organizational considerations.

Special Instructions

Recruitment aims to establish a pool of qualified candidates for multiple short‑term, temporary appointments. Applications remain active for up to 6 months within the pool.
