Position description

The Division of Hematology Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for a full‑time faculty member in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank. Faculty in the Clinical X series is expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service.

Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.

The incumbent will care for patients with hematological and oncologic diseases with a focus on, but not exclusively, genitourinary and gastrointestinal cancers. Responsibilities include direct inpatient and outpatient clinical care, teaching medical students, residents and fellows, and university/public service. Depending on the faculty series (Clinical X versus HSCP), there will be variable effort towards scholarly activity which may include clinical and translational research.

Demonstrated aptitude and/or potential for excellence in these domains is required.

The division includes 26 clinical and research faculty, six associate physicians, 13 fellows, 10 advanced practice providers, and numerous administrative, financial and research staff, and operates a large and diverse clinical and research program. The division is a major component of the NCI‑designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and has a strong presence in developmental therapeutics within the national cancer clinical trials cooperative groups.

The division research portfolio is particularly broad and spans laboratory‑based early translation to population sciences and health outcome disparities. The UC Davis School of Medicine is in the top quarter of US medical schools for NIH funding and has a Clinical and Translational Science Awards hub since 2006. The University of California, Davis is one of the premier public research universities in the nation.

Sacramento is a vibrant community, and the region has abundant outdoor recreational and cultural opportunities in the agricultural heartland and capitol of the nation's most populous state, and fourth largest economy in the world.

The position gives the successful candidate the opportunity to join a growing practice in a stimulating environment of academic clinicians and non‑clinician investigators who are committed to both clinical care and research. The successful candidate will help to further improve and expand the current and oncological care and treatment therapies.
