Position description

Pediatric Hematologist

Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology‑Oncology, UC Davis Children’s Hospital, UC Davis Health School of Medicine.

The department seeks a full‑time Academic Pediatric Hematologist at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) or Professor of Clinical (X) series.

This role provides direct patient care for children, adolescents, and young adults with benign hematologic conditions, focusing on hemostasis. Responsibilities also include hemoglobinopathies, cytopenias, and cellular dysfunctions. The successful candidate will participate in the institution’s research and scholarly mission, either as a collaborator or as an intellectual leader of clinically or basic science research projects, depending on the academic series chosen.

Clinical duties comprise 70–90% of effort in inpatient and outpatient settings, with the remainder devoted to academic interests and qualifications.

The Division of Pediatric Hematology‑Oncology includes ten specialty physicians and five advanced practice providers, caring for 100–120 new pediatric oncology patients per year. It is a FACT‑accredited Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy program.

Additional programs include a dedicated Hemoglobinopathies program serving 100 sickle cell and 30 thalassemia patients, a federal Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center receiving up to 70 new patients yearly, and a clinical trials unit researching gene therapy, drug development, epidemiology, and public health.

UC Davis Children’s Hospital serves a population of over 1 million children in Northern California, Central Valley, and Western Nevada, offering a family‑oriented environment near major California attractions.

Applicants must possess an MD or DO, a California professional license or eligibility, fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology‑Oncology, board eligibility/certification in pediatrics and pediatric hematology‑oncology, and excellent clinical care skills in all areas of hematology with a focus on hemostasis. Experience in clinical, teaching, and research that meets appointment requirements at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in one of UC’s academic series is preferred but not required.
