DEPARTMENT:Public Health POSITION DETAILS
The Department of Public Health at Sacramento State offers a BA in Public Health, a minor in Occupational Health & Safety, a Master of Public Health, and a BS in Public Health. The hybrid-format MPH program offers a concentration in Health Promotion, Policy and Leadership.
The Department seeks part-time instructors to teach courses in Health Promotion and Education, Health Care Administration, and Occupational Health & Safety. Course topics include Healthy Lifestyles, Healthy Aging, Emergency Preparedness, Fire Prevention & Safety, Human Ecology and Health, Healthy Psychology, Epidemiology, Research Methods, Community Health, School Health Education, Alcohol & Other Drugs, Health Care Systems, Health Policy, and Public Health Administration.
Instructors may teach morning, afternoon, and evening classes via in-person, online, or hybrid instruction.
Duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Appointments are typically one semester, with occasional initial appointments for an academic year. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance.
RANK AND SALARYInitial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
The salary ranges indicated are based on a full‑time rate (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester's worth of compensation is made up of six (6) payments of the given amount. To calculate your salary for a semester, the base rate would be pro‑rated based on the units worked out of 15 WTUs. If you were a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary, your pay would be structured as follows: $5,507 × 3/15 = $1,101.40 × 6 checks = $6,608.40 total for 3 units/semester.
QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree in a field related to the area of instruction is required to teach undergraduate courses.
A doctoral degree in a field related to the area of instruction is required to teach graduate courses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPrior experience teaching college level courses and previous or current employment in Public Health or related disciplines.
