Department: Mathematics & Statistics

Position Details: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers approximately 40 undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses. Classes are generally small, with many opportunities for faculty–student contact. Students from a wide range of majors are enrolled in the lower division courses offered by the department. The department offers a major in mathematics, a minor in mathematics, and a minor in statistics.

Responsibilities: Instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Appointment: Part‑time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when instructional needs arise. Initial appointments are typically one semester, occasionally for an academic year. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance.

Rank and Salary: Initial rank and salary based on professional experience and educational background, determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.

Qualifications:
Required: Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics.
Preferred: Prior teaching experience in mathematics or statistics at the post‑secondary level.

Salary Calculation Example: Lecturer A assigned 3 units at minimum salary: $5,507 × 3/15 = $1,101.40 per check × 6 checks = $6,608.40 for 3 units per semester.
