The School of Social Work at Sacramento State is one of the largest accredited social work programs in California. The School prepares ethical and competent generalist and specialized social workers who can both lead and serve our communities in the development and delivery of psychosocial and clinical services that contribute to human wellbeing and social justice.
We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) for generalist practice. For the Master of Social Work degree, we offer three pathways: a traditional two-year program, an extended part-time (three-year) program, and an Advanced Standing (one-year) program for those who hold an accredited BASW degree within 5 years of application. MSW students specialize in behavioral health; health and aging;
or practice with children and families. We also offer a training program for those pursuing a career in child welfare (Title IV-E). The program emphasizes health equity and social justice and encourages applicants who are diverse, experienced practitioners (micro through macro).
