Position Summary

The Community Center Gym Attendant/Books before Baskets Tutor position provides administrative support to Community Center Programs and assists the Community Center Coordinator. The role offers a safe, developmentally appropriate sports and recreation program for youth, maintains records and reports, and serves as a coach, tutor, mentor, and leader for children. The position requires a genuine desire to work with and play reactive games with youth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work directly with the Community Center Coordinator on essential office duties (phone calls, outgoing mail and correspondence, including e-mail and faxes, copying, typing, spreadsheets, mailing, etc.).
  • Ensure all children attending the tutoring program are signed in/out.
  • Ensure all volunteer packets are completed and training is finished.
  • Process child enrollment applications and paperwork for Community Center programs; accept and process program fees using the kiosk and bill families for programs.
  • Maintain the inventory of the snack bar and securely store unsold inventory.
  • Manage inventory and prepare requisitions for ordering supplies as needed.
  • Maintain the office area in a clean, organized, presentable manner.
  • Help oversee program-related functions of the Community Center to ensure adherence to The Salvation Army's policies and procedures.
  • Request, issue, and monitor return of athletic equipment and recreation games: check equipment for proper care and use.
  • Assist the Community Center Coordinator in filling coaching and other program positions.
  • Assist with advertising and promoting all Alhambra Campus program activities within the Community Center.
  • Provide tutoring to struggling students in the Basketball program.
  • Monitor student success by report card, parental discussion, and coach participation.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
  • At least 2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Good judgment and professional demeanor.
  • Proficiency in standard office computer software programs.
  • Ability to speak and write the English language is required.
  • Knowledge of sports-related rules and regulations, or ability to learn such rules, is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must possess a valid California /or Class C driver license.
  • Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training (if applicable).
  • Must be at least 21 years old, in accordance with state regulations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for up to two hours or more at a time.
  • Ability to walk, run, reach, and grasp with arms.
  • Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
  • Ability to reach overhead.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Vision required: close vision, distance vision, color vision.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment.
