Position TitleLecturer Pool - Geology
Position DetailsThe faculty and staff of the CSUS Geology Department are committed to providing the best geological education available. We meet this commitment through high‑quality teaching, close student‑faculty interaction, and undergraduate and graduate research. We are seeking qualified applicants for our part‑time lecturer pool to teach undergraduate and graduate geology courses in Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Surficial Processes, Paleontology, and Petrology, as well as general‑education courses in physical geology, natural disasters, oceanography, and dinosaurs.
Duties of a part‑time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Rank and SalaryInitial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211
The ranges are based on a “full‑time rate” (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester’s worth of compensation is made up of six payments of the given amount. Salary for a semester is prorated based on units worked out of 15 WTUs.
Required QualificationsMaster’s degree in Geology or a related Geoscience field of study.
Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience teaching Geology at the post‑secondary level.
