Lead Mechanical Engineer - Buildings – Sacramento, CA
Mission
You will join the Property & Buildings – Mechanical Team to design HVAC and related systems for a range of projects, including healthcare, commercial, laboratory, industrial, and mission‑critical facilities.
Responsibilities- Independently support the project team during design and construction stages of projects.
- Design air distribution, hydronic and automated temperature control systems.
- Integrate complex mechanical engineering requirements into facility designs.
- Work within multi‑discipline project teams to develop drawings and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors, and building owners.
- Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions.
- Collaborate and coordinate with internal project discipline team members and external vendors and manufacturers.
- Communicate mechanical engineering concepts and decisions to clients and stakeholders.
- Interact regularly with clients, maintaining current relationships and developing new ones.
- Mentor and train junior engineers.
- Track and coordinate all mechanical disciplines: HVAC, Energy, Controls, Fire Protection, Fire Alarm, Plumbing, Fuel Oil Storage / Management / Distribution.
- Provide oversight of all aspects of mechanical design, review systems and drawings prior to issuance.
- Select and schedule major equipment.
- Develop project specifications.
- Survey and evaluate existing conditions.
- Perform construction administration tasks.
- Assist in developing proposals and other business development activities as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with emphasis on mechanical building systems.
- 7+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for high‑performing commercial, industrial, or healthcare facilities.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE), if eligible.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong teamwork and written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency with applicable software, including AutoCAD, Revit, Trane Trace, and other engineering analysis programs.
- Knowledge of building, mechanical, energy codes and design standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, FGI, etc.).
- Experience with healthcare projects.
Expected Salary: $118,000 - $175,230
