POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Inverter Field Services leads the development and operation of Nextpower’s inverter field-services discipline within Engineering Field Services. The role establishes operational objectives, determines resources and schedules, and manages the execution of commissioning support, preventive and corrective maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, customer escalation response, and technical training for utility-scale central inverter systems.

This is a working manager role. The manager provides technical direction in the field while supervising field service professionals and technicians, coordinating subcontractors, and building repeatable operating processes for a growing capability. The role translates functional plans into field execution, recommends policy and process changes, manages workforce and operating priorities, and is accountable for safety, customer outcomes, schedule performance, service quality, and cost control.

The role requires approximately 80%+ travel to utility-scale solar sites across North America.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead daily and long-range operating activities for inverter field services, including work planning, resource allocation, staffing, dispatch, site coverage, and escalation management.
  • Provide technical direction for DC input integrity, AC phase rotation, grounding and GFDI validation, medium-voltage transformer interface readiness, cable entry, ventilation, and post-installation inspections.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for high-priority customer issues involving inverter performance, unexpected trips, energy availability, and service recovery.
  • Develop, approve, and maintain Nextpower-specific standard operating procedures, commissioning checklists, service runbooks, safety job plans, and field reporting standards.
  • Partner with Product, Controls, Software, Hardware, Security & Communications, Commissioning, Project, Technical Services, and Field Services teams to resolve issues and improve product and service performance.
  • Set and model the safety standard for inverter work, including NFPA 70E, OSHA, NEC, site-specific requirements, arc-flash controls, stored-energy hazards, and medium-voltage interface work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of related experience in industrial electrical systems, power electronics, renewable energy, field service, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience servicing, commissioning, or maintaining utility-scale solar PV systems.
  • Experience working around medium-voltage distribution systems.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 80%+ to utility-scale solar sites across North America, including overnight travel and emergency service response as required.
  • Required or maintainable: OSHA 10, current CPR/First Aid, NFPA 70E Electrical Safety, valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and any site-required qualifications.
  • Preferred: OSHA 30
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Three-phase power systems; high-voltage DC up to 1500 Vdc; medium-voltage systems from 4.16 kV to 34.5 kV; transformer operation; harmonic mitigation; protection relays; and power-quality analysis.
  • Power electronics, including IGBT systems, SCR rectifiers, DC bus systems, capacitor banks, cooling systems, heat exchangers, fans, and blowers.
  • Grid synchronization, reactive-power control, power-factor correction, grid-forming and grid-following inverters, utility interconnection requirements, IEEE 1547, and UL 1741.
  • PLC troubleshooting, HMI operation, SCADA and plant-control systems, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, CANbus, fiber optics, and vendor diagnostic software.
  • Root-cause failure analysis, predictive maintenance, CMMS platforms such as SAP or Maximo, Jira/Confluence or equivalent, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to use or direct work involving digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power-quality analyzers, megohmmeters, infrared cameras, clamp meters, phase-rotation testers, low-resistance ohmmeters, and relay-test equipment.
