Position Overview: The salary range for this position is $211,100 - $423,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Director of Clinical Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, California is recruiting for one full‑time Director, Medical Clinical Physicist faculty member. The faculty member will either be in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Associate or Professor rank. Faculty in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service.

The Radiation Oncology Department at the NCI designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is equipped with matched Elekta Versa linear accelerators, Tomo‑Therapy HAD soon to be upgraded to Radixact/Clear

RT, Gamma Knife Icon, Image‑guided HDR Brachytherapy suite with a mobile CT, Oncentra Brachytherapy Planning. Mosaiq OIS and Epic EMRs, Ray Search Raystation treatment planning, Align RT, MIM, and is committed to providing the most advanced treatment delivery and image‑guided technologies, including VMAT, SBRT, 4D CBCT, and a range of respiratory management strategies. The department built a dedicated Image Guided Brachytherapy (IGBT) outpatient suite that serves as a dedicated special procedure room for all gyn/prostate/breast HDR procedures, including Space OAR.

UC Davis was among the first to install the Philips Big Bore‑RT for external beam treatment planning and a large bore mobile CT scanner (Neurologica‑Samsung Body Tom) for CT guidance in brachytherapy. The department employs a wide range of couches and patient transfer systems to advance our image guidance strategies and provide ergonomic features to streamline the scan‑plan‑treat process. The upgraded treatment machines and vaults completed in 2022 provide for the newest linear accelerators with KV/MV imaging systems for IGRT, IMRT, and FFF VMAT to serve patients from a wide region of Northern California and Nevada.

The Department of Radiation Oncology currently includes 7 Board Certified radiation oncologists, 6 A  Certified Ph.D. medical physicists, 2 radio biologists, 6 CMD certified dosimetrists, a medical physicist assistant for after‑hour QA measurements, and a large support staff of certified therapists. The department is actively involved in institutional, federal, and industry clinical trials and is a full member of NRG Oncology. Comprehensive clinical trial support is available through the cancer center Office of Clinical Research.

The department has ACGME and CAMPEP accredited residency training programs, and ACR accreditation. UC Davis Health is a major academic health center located in Sacramento, California.

This position will provide clinical services in the Department of Radiation Oncology, including external beam treatment including IGRT and IMRT, and special procedures with high‑dose rate brachytherapy; have the capacity to initiate and complete research projects; participate in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows; clinical and/or basic research investigation; and participate in university and public service.

This position is expected to utilize the scientific and intellectual resources available at UC Davis and will utilize the resources of the department, NCI‑designated comprehensive cancer center, CTSC (Clinical Translational Science Center), and the Health System in general. The department collaborates with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Radiology, and School of Veterinary Medicine on the Davis Campus, including projects with advanced 3D printing techniques and clinical research and trials on animals, and because of these relationships several of the physics faculty maintain joint appointments with the…
