Senior Ultrasound Technologist Per Diem

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist competently performs routine and specialized ultrasound exams of varied complexity to produce quality images for physicians and other health care providers to diagnose, treat, and monitor disease processes. Works independently, exercising sound judgment, and executing developed clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and situations to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Work routines are guided by established procedures and protocols;

quality of work performed is approved or reviewed by the shift supervisor, principal ultrasound technologist, manager, or appropriate radiologist.

The incumbent must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). CPR required. Must be able to work variable hours, alternate shifts, and occasional overtime to provide coverage as needed for sick leave, staffing shortages, etc. Must be able to rotate on-call for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage per departmental staffing guidelines. Must be able to travel to other UC Davis imaging facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• ARDMS in Abdomen and/or OBGYN
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
• No Minimum Education required
• No Minimum Work Experience required
• Capably demonstrates the knowledge and ability to operate ultrasound equipment in order to produce a quality product
• Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as radiological field advances
• Ability to follow extensive and detailed protocols
• Ability to use a checklist while performing studies
• Analytical skills necessary to perform non-routine, complex ultrasound studies
• Ability to perform detailed and complex ultrasounds on a varied patient population
• Physical ability to capably perform all functions of a staff sonographer
• Ability to recognize normal anatomy, certain pathological conditions, and to differentiate disease processes and artifacts with ultrasound
• Ability to function and remain calm under multiple directions and/or fluctuations of work volume
• Skill to organize workload by priority to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
• Good verbal and written communication skills; documents and reports clearly and concisely
• Must effectively read, write and verbally communicate in the English language
• Demonstrates ability to express self in all areas of communication and use effective listening techniques

• 85% - ULTRASOUND SCANNING
• 10% - GENERAL LABORATORY DUTIES
• 5% - OPERATION OF ULTRASOUND EQUIPMENT IN SPECIAL APPLICATIONS AND AREAS

Department Overview

The Department of Radiology is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation providing Imaging Services to adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatients. The Ultrasound section performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound exams and interventional procedures for diagnosis and treatment of disease processes.
