CalPERS Safety retirement:
Classic employee 3% @ 50, PEPRA employee 2.7% @ 57
CalPERS health insurance offering variety of HMO's and PPO's. District contributes 92% of the health plan premium and the employee is responsible for the remaining 8% of the premium. Dental and vision insurance are also paid by the District.
Life Insurance$20,000 for the first probationary year and $100,000 thereafter.

Under supervision of the Fire Captain, performs a full range of all-risk emergency activities, including, but not limited to: fire suppression, emergency medical services, extrication, technical rescue, and hazardous materials. Firefighters will engage in the suppression of structural, wildland, and other types of fires; performs scheduled maintenance of fire stations, fire apparatus and related equipment; provides emergency medical and rescue services to the community;
participates in fire safety inspections; maintains various records and completes various reports; may be required to drive emergency fire and EMS apparatus; performs other duties as required.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and a physical to include a drug screen.
The education or experience requirements may be modified or waived at the sole discretion of the Fire Chief. At least one of the education or experience requirements must be met; both requirements cannot be modified or waived. The Sacramento Metro Fire District Board of Directors shall be notified of any such modifications or waivers.
AgeMust be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
EducationPossess a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
LicensesMust possess a National Registry Paramedic card or a California State Paramedic Card at the time of application. If candidates apply with a National Registry card, you must be able to obtain a California State Paramedic license by the time of a conditional offer of employment.
Must be able to obtain a Sacramento County EMT-P Accreditation by completion of the district specific training/orientation period.
Possession of a valid unrestricted California Driver's License Class
C. Ability to obtain and maintain a Firefighter Endorsement within six (6) months of appointment.
All candidates must have a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) from a provider licensed by the IAFF/IAFC. The CPAT must have been obtained within one year prior to the date of application (after January 8, 2025).
