The Office of Data and Innovation is looking for an Analytics Enablement Lead to join our Cal Data team. As the Analytics Enablement Lead, you are a senior technical expert who helps California state agencies build up their business intelligence (BI) and analytics capabilities.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Advanced Analytics and Evaluation, you will lead cross-departmental programs like our Analytics Accelerator, while providing technical guidance and analytics support on the Data Science Accelerator and new projects. You will work directly with state teams to help them move off manual, spreadsheet-heavy processes and onto automated, self-serve data systems.

In this role, you will build BI solutions, write technical playbooks and guides, and coach department teams so they can manage their own data long-term. You will also help agencies set up program metrics, integrate modern BI features (including AI-assisted analytics tools), and step in to help state executives solve urgent, complex data problems.

What You’ll Do
  • Scale enablement: Lead the technical expansion of BI and analytics accelerator programs statewide.
  • Modernize & coach: Automate manual reporting workflows and train agency teams on data governance, playbooks, and modern BI tools.
  • Evaluate & prototype: Build proof-of-concept dashboards and evaluate new BI and AI-assisted analytics tools.
  • Enable smart features: Integrate advanced analytics features into dashboards and update training resources.
  • Define & evaluate: Translate policy goals into measurable metrics and build frameworks to evaluate public programs.
  • Audit & refine: Audit models for bias and performance while using feedback loops to continuously improve services.
  • Advise & scope: Counsel state leadership on complex data challenges and scope new project requests.
  • Partner & document: Collaborate with department partners to diagnose issues and author project charters and plans.

You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.
