We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Civil Medical Negligence Defense Associate Attorney to join our legal team. Our main fields of practice include defending healthcare providers in medical malpractice matters. This position will involve independently handling all aspects of litigation, including discovery; motion practice; taking/defending depositions; court appearances; trial preparation; and trial work. Experience in governmental entity tort liability will be highly impactful.
Given the nature of our practice, you will have an opportunity to be in the courtroom and be involved in jury trials on a regular and frequent basis.
We are presently a new and growing civil litigation firm with five attorneys and widely varied experience. We love what we do and we have amazing clients. As trusted advisors, we navigate complex issues and provide creative and cost-effective solutions with an emphasis on meeting our clients' needs through all aspects of malpractice trial practice, arbitration and administrative matters. Your commitment to providing high-quality case work will contribute to ensuring justice, accountability, and solve complicated issues within the legal system.
Responsibilities- Strong working knowledge of civil procedure and evidence.
- Experience drafting pleadings, discovery (both requests and responses), motions, settlement demands, and mediation briefs.
- Strong law and motion skills.
- Experience working with clients directly.
- Ability to independently identify issues and to litigate strategically.
- Strong legal and factual investigation skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Admitted to practice in the state of California.
- Learn pertinent medicine and standard of care concepts.
- Experience in summarizing discovery and medical records.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and four-year college degree.
- Admission to the California state bar and in good standing.
- Minimum 2 years civil litigation experience in California state and federal courts. Previous experience in civil litigation, or medical malpractice preferred.
- Strong litigation skills and experience in handling complex legal cases.
- Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of clients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Commitment to ethical and professional standards.
Salary $120,000 to $150,000
Bonuses based on individual and team contribution
