The mission of IYT is to increase the number of young men of color to attend and graduate from community colleges and universities. IYT is a national organization operating across multiple states and regions, partnering with schools and communities to build Brotherhood, college-going culture, and structured pathways from 6th grade through college completion. About Ameri Corps VISTA Ameri Corps is a federal agency that engages individuals in paid community service with nonprofits, schools, and public agencies to meet pressing local needs. In return for their term of service, members receive a living allowance and may earn an education award upon completion. As a VISTA Volunteer, you’ll take on meaningful, hands-on work that drives long-term change in areas like education, public health, climate resilience, and access to essential services.

From grant writing and research to fundraising and community volunteer engagement, you’ll build real-world experience while developing leadership skills that set you apart.

This VISTA position supports Improve Your Tomorrow's capacity-building efforts in Human Resources as the organization scales into a national presence. The VISTA will help establish appropriate systems and standards across four key HR domains:
Data Privacy & Security, Compliance, Benefits & Compensation, and Employee Wellness.

Chief People Officer

As an Ameri Corps VISTA member, you'll receive a living allowance to cover basic expenses during your term of service, along with health coverage, and — upon successful completion of your 12-month term — the choice between a Segal Ameri Corps Education Award or a cash stipend. Additional support may include relocation assistance, childcare assistance for eligible members, student loan forbearance, and non-competitive eligibility for federal jobs for up to one year after service.

Members also gain access to Ameri Corps VISTA's national training network and professional development resources, along with direct mentorship from IYT leadership throughout the term.

• $957.46 (Pre-tax) Bi-weekly stipend for 40 hours per week

Stipend and education award amounts are estimates (before taxes)

• Assess current HR data practices, research best practices, and support implementation of improvements.
• Identify applicable state/federal HR laws, assess IYT's compliance status, and support correction of gaps.
• Benchmark against industry standards and recommend improvements to current offerings.
• Research wellness models at similar organizations and recommend initiatives IYT can implement.

Required:

• Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail
• Strong desire or interest to work in the Human Resource industry or in people management.
• Comfort working independently and structuring ambiguous projects into defined steps
• Clear written communication, particularly translating complex processes into plain language
• Proficiency with cloud-based collaboration tools
