The mission of IYT is to increase the number of young men of color to attend and graduate from community colleges and universities. We envision a nation in which young men of color are over represented in higher education, underrepresented in the criminal justice system, and are leaders in their communities.

IYT is a national organization operating across multiple states and regions, partnering with schools and communities to build Brotherhood, college-going culture, and structured pathways from 6th grade through college completion. We believe that a college degree is a pathway to opportunity — and that every brother deserves a team of committed adults in their corner.

Ameri Corps is a federal agency that engages individuals in paid community service with nonprofits, schools, and public agencies to meet pressing local needs. In return for their term of service, members receive a living allowance and may earn an education award upon completion. As a VISTA Volunteer, you’ll take on meaningful, hands-on work that drives long-term change in areas like education, public health, climate resilience, and access to essential services.

From grant writing and research to fundraising and community volunteer engagement, you’ll build real-world experience while developing leadership skills that set you apart.

IYT has grown quickly across multiple states – faster than its internal governance and information systems have kept pace. Board records, compliance requirements, and institutional knowledge currently live across disconnected systems and depend heavily on individual staff memory rather than documented processes. This VISTA member will build the infrastructure that removes that constraint: permanent systems designed to function independently of any one staff member and to remain operational long after the member's term ends.

As an Ameri Corps VISTA member, you'll receive a living allowance to cover basic expenses during your term of service, along with health coverage, and — upon successful completion of your 12-month term — the choice between a Segal Ameri Corps Education Award or a cash stipend. Additional support may include relocation assistance, childcare assistance for eligible members, student loan forbearance, and non-competitive eligibility for federal jobs for up to one year after service.

Members also gain access to Ameri Corps VISTA's national training network and professional development resources, along with direct mentorship from IYT leadership throughout the term.

• $957.46 (Pre-tax) Bi-weekly stipend for 40 hours per week

• Information and Data Architecture — a documented, organization-wide system of record across Google Drive and Salesforce, including board data, records retention standards, and crisis documentation protocols.
• Board Governance Operating System — a more integrated, largely automated system connecting Salesforce, , and Google Drive to run IYT's quarterly board governance cycle.
• Governance Policy and Multi-State Compliance — a governance policy library and compliance calendar covering every state in which IYT operates.
