Job Summary

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas which include the PICU/PCICU and CCCTT, in order to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies.

The Nurse Manager assumes responsibility of the Extra Corporpreal Life Support Program (ECLS). The ECLS program serves neonatal, pediatric and adult patients. This oversight includes the supervision and education of installation nurse specialists, data collection for ELSO and internal quality improvement. He/She is responsible for maintinaing working relationships with perfusion, medical staff, surgical staff, blood bank, point of care testing and hospital administration.

He/She is responsible for creating systems and processes toọt ensure competent and safe patient care, as well as development and review of policies and procedures.

The Nurse Manager will lead staff to model

Carthy practice environment by: providing a clinically competent staff; encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in‑service and formal education; stressing the importance of continuous learning; and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount.

The Nurse Manager assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, supports research, participates in both long and short term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy. The Nurse Manager is accountable to the Executive Director Patient Care Services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • A valid California Registered Nurse License
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Certification of field of practice - Critical Care Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and a Master’s degree in nursing or other related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree (in a field other than nursing) paired with a Master of Science degree in Nursing is accepted.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent nursing experience in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent nursing management experience in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area
  • Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
  • Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Department Overview

Registered Nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)/Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Unit (PCICU) and the Children’s Critical Care Transport Team (CCCTT) PICU/PCICU/CCCTT department at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to adult and pediatric with a variety of critical care needs. Patient conditions include:
Congenital heart disease, trauma, complex medical/ surgical diagnosis, ECLS, CRRT, DKA, asthma, among other pediatric critical care conditions.
