Job Description And Duties:

Under the general direction of the Supervisor I of the Disability Unit I (DU-I) within the Disability Management Section (DMS), the Support Services Assistant (Interpreter) (SSA-I) is responsible for providing reasonable accommodations and equal communication access to Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees. The SSA-I provides on/off-site interpreting services for any CDSS Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees. The SSA‑I interacts and interprets regularly with all levels of CDSS staff from all divisions, representatives from other federal or state agencies, contract agency staff, community organizations, service providers, and the general public.

The SSA‑I will frequently interpret for upper management in high-level and context-rich situations. There may also be limited contact with the Legislature, Health and Human Services Agency, and the Directorate staff. This position requires a high level of skill and confidentiality due to the complex and sensitive nature of the issues being discussed. The SSA‑I facilitates a positive working relationship between CDSS and the agencies CDSS contracts with.

This requires a thorough knowledge of Deaf culture and utilization of ASL interpreting services.
