Embedded Systems/ Firmware/ IoT, Embedded Software Engineer

Luxer One designs and deploys smart locker and access systems across multifamily properties, commercial enterprises, retail chains, and food delivery networks across North America. An Assa Abloy company, our products span cloud, mobile, and physical hardware — connected through firmware that runs in the field, at scale, around the clock. We manufacture control boards, IoT gateways, access hubs, and connected locker systems, and the firmware powering those devices is what makes all of it reliable.
Why This Role MattersWhen firmware works, nobody notices. When it doesn't, a deployed device goes dark, a locker doesn't open, or a fleet of devices stops reporting health to the cloud. At Luxer One, firmware is not a support function — it is the reliability foundation of everything we ship. We are actively scaling our embedded portfolio: next-generation control boards, IoT-connected gateways, BLE and WiFi-enabled locker hardware, mesh access systems, and temperature-managed storage devices.
Each program is a real production deployment with real uptime expectations and real customers on the other end.
We need a Senior Firmware Engineer who can own programs end to end — from hardware bring-up and architecture through production firmware, OTA update pipelines, and field reliability — and who brings genuine seniority to the embedded systems decisions that define product quality at scale.
Who You AreYou are a firmware engineer who is equally comfortable writing embedded C at the register level and presenting a hardware architecture decision to a cross-functional team. You do not wait for specs to be perfect before you start, and you do not consider a program done when code ships — you own it through field deployment and into production operations.
You are:
A low-level builder — you write production C/C++ on microcontrollers, understand memory models, peripheral drivers, and timing constraints, and can debug a device in the field with an oscilloscope and a logic analyzer as readily as in a simulator
Reliable in production — you treat uptime as a personal accountability; you build telemetry in, design OTA update paths that fail safely, and watch the fleet after launch
A cross-discipline collaborator — you work directly with electrical engineers on schematic review and hardware bring-up, and with manufacturing partners on NPI readiness and production tooling
A technical decision-maker — you author architecture docs and hardware specifications that others build from, not just code that implements what someone else decided
AI-fluent — you actively use AI tools in your engineering workflow: for documentation, code review, debugging analysis, status reporting, and technical communication. You move faster and produce higher-quality artifacts because of it, and you are interested in the broader frontier of AI-assisted embedded development
Operationally minded — you understand that embedded systems in a commercial IoT product live in the real world, subject to network outages, power interruptions, hostile environments, and user error. You design for that reality, not the happy path
And you bring:
A track record of shipping embedded firmware for IoT or connected hardware products into production at meaningful scale
Experience with the full embedded development lifecycle: architecture, bring-up, driver development, application firmware, manufacturing tooling, OTA, and field maintenance
Hands-on experience with BLE, WiFi, or cellular connectivity in embedded products
Comfort owning multiple concurrent hardware programs with limited supervision
What You'll DoOwn firmware architecture and delivery for Luxer One's embedded hardware portfolio — including locker control boards,…
