Supervisor - Distribution

Airgas is seeking an experienced Supervisor to manage distribution operations at our Sacramento plant, supporting acetylene production and filling activities.

Location

Sacramento, CA (Plant) – Acetylene production & filling

Compensation

Pay Range: $71,000–$80,000 annually

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Branch/Distribution Manager with daily delivery routes, purchase order requests, and necessary paperwork for cylinder movement.
  • Supervise CDL drivers, coordinate loading and transportation of compressed and liquid gas cylinders to customers or company locations.
  • Plan routes and schedules for drivers, vehicles, deliveries, and pick‑ups based on driver, company, and customer information.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety policies, including use of personal protective equipment.
  • Create a safe work environment by contributing to zero preventable accidents and continuous compliance with safety rules, SOPs, and regulations.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems, assisting drivers as needed.
  • Assist the Branch Manager with monthly driver ride‑a‑longs, coaching on Smith Safe Driving principles, DOT paperwork compliance, pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, material handling, and customer service.
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings, interpret company policies to drivers, and enforce safety regulations.
  • Process cylinder orders for local routes and handle delivery order tickets in the system.
  • Collaborate with supervisors of other departments to coordinate material flow.
  • Pull daily orders from the SAP system to create routes for driver deliveries.
  • Generate load sheets for production loaders to prepare trucks for on‑time delivery.
  • Maintain production data, cylinder movements, special handling arrangements, and costs for customer invoicing.
  • Provide support for all DOT paperwork for accuracy and completeness before uploading to DOT files.
  • Communicate professionally, respectfully, and effectively at all levels in both oral and written forms.
  • Perform any reasonable work request within qualifications if not specifically described.
Qualifications
  • High school degree or equivalent preferred; 2–3 years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least two years of experience in a distribution logistics environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and SAP.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA/DOT rules and regulations (helpful).
  • Prior dispatch experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
