Masser Logistics Services (MLS), a growing transportation and logistics company within the Sterman Masser Family of Companies, is seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Operations / General Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of our logistics and transportation operations.
This senior leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence, fostering a strong safety-first and service-focused culture, and supporting the continued growth and maturity of MLS. The Director of Operations / General Manager will provide hands‑on leadership across fleet operations, brokerage and carrier relationships, maintenance, compliance, and technology, while ensuring alignment with company standards, customer expectations, and long‑term strategic goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Lead the continued maturation and optimization of transportation and logistics operations to meet company standards, customer service requirements, and end‑client expectations.
- Identify, analyze, prioritize, and eliminate operational losses, inefficiencies, and process gaps.
- Develop, implement, and maintain reporting dashboards and KPIs to drive accountability, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement against established targets.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with Masser Family of Companies partners, contract growers and MLB customers, and internal production teams to ensure timely, efficient transportation flows.
- Drive innovation and operational excellence through the strategic use of technology and data analytics across all logistics processes.
- Integrate technology into existing workflows to improve visibility, data capture, and decision‑making capabilities.
- Increase the depth and quality of actionable data extracted from current transportation and logistics processes.
- Lead, develop, and reinforce a positive, safety‑focused culture among MLS drivers, including the establishment and enforcement of consistent driver and fleet policies.
- Manage and oversee truck shop staff to ensure equipment reliability, compliance, and operational readiness.
- Assume full responsibility for the company‑owned fleet, as well as a growing network of independent and partner carriers, fostering strong relationships and long‑term collaboration.
- Maximize revenue generation opportunities while balancing service expectations, cost controls, and risk management.
- Lead procurement of trucks, trailers and other MLS equipment, focusing on fuel efficiency, technology and branding.
- Lead and strengthen a culture of professionalism among fleet drivers, reinforcing the Company's expectations related to uniforms, proper footwear, personal protective equipment (PPE), and overall professional appearance.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing costs, minimizing liabilities, and improving overall operational efficiency.
- Take ownership of the company's CSA score, ensuring compliance and maintaining a strong safety and regulatory standing.
- Verify the accuracy and fairness of driver and third‑party carrier compensation.
- Recommend, negotiate, and validate third‑party carrier rates based on current market conditions.
- Coordinate and secure transportation capacity in regions where raw product is sourced and procured.
- Manage procurement‑related freight movements in alignment with operational and financial objectives.
- Assign equipment and resources to drivers based on efficiency, utilization, and service needs.
- Lead and execute special projects, including new customer accounts, capacity‑constrained regions, and time‑sensitive or high‑risk deliveries.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable DOT, ICC, and IFTA regulations, including required documentation, driver medical certifications, and fleet compliance standards for SMI and KPP operations.
- Represent Masser Logistics Services professionally and positively, strengthening the MLS brand locally and expanding its presence beyond the current footprint.
- Maintain an active presence both internally and within the local transportation and logistics community by developing relationships with peer organizations and industry partners.
- Organize and lead semi‑annual driver training meetings focused on safety, compliance, performance expectations, and company culture.
