POSITION OVERVIEW

This Secretary Level II provides clerical support for Middle School administration (Principal, Assistant Principals, Dean of Students and Counselors) at one of three grade-level buildings. This position also includes student-support responsibilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Maintain confidentiality of department and student information.
  • Type letters, correspondence, memorandums and complex documents for the assistant principals and dime of students, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate student records to include but not limited to enrollment, attendance, academic progress, and discipline.
  • Schedule appointments and maintain that schedule as needed for the grade-level building administration.
  • Answer, screen and process telephonic, emailed and in-person inquiries from staff, students, and parents.
  • Process and distribute incoming materials and supplies.
  • Assists administrators/teachers/counselors/coaches with special projects.
  • Maintain an accurate list of building-level middle school staff, parents, volunteers and student organizations.
  • Maintain a regular filing system and process correspondence as instructed.
  • Perform such other tasks as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or GED. Associate or higher degree in Business or applicable field preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in modern office practices and procedures.
  • Ability in keyboarding and data entry with speed and accuracy.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and office equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of software, particularly word processing and spreadsheets (Google Docs, Excel, Publisher and Word preferred).
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively and positively with employees, students and the general public.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage office tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate organizational abilities to carry out a project to completion.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Daily, in-person attendance required
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Ability to use sound judgment; tact and courtesy in a variety of situations
  • Work with frequent interruptions
  • Repetitive hand motions
  • Prolonged use of computer
  • Possible occasional lifting or pushing of up to 25 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close up reading such as needed for handwritten or typed material, ability to adjust focus and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily an indoor work environment in the grade-level office of an open campus multiple building middle school.

HOURS/PAY
  • 8 hours per day (inclusive of a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break)
  • 213 workdays (August through June)
  • Wages pursuant to collective bargaining agreement with Saginaw Township Support Staff Association (STSSA) Salary and benefits are pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement between the district and Saginaw Township Support Staff Association (STSSA).
  • Current hourly rates are $13.73–18.82
  • Additional educational stipend of $0.80 per hour for individuals with Associate’s Degree or 60+ college credits (official transcripts must be received by district in order to qualify)
  • Medical, dental and vision benefits available (Employees new to the district pay 10.0% of cost).
